Series: Doubting Power Pt. 7
The drive from Ashburgh to Kitsen was 3 hours long and Maya’s solemn mood made it seem even longer and drearier than it needed to be. She drove in silence with her occasional sniff keeping her company. The roads were emptier than the usual and Maya thought to herself that it was like the entire world was reflecting her current state of mind ‘all alone in the wilderness’, Maya cruised along in no rush with a sigh here and there. It became too much to handle for her and she pulled over on the side of the freeway to just release all that had built up inside her since her last episode and she cried. The anger she felt towards herself grew into a slight hatred and she cursed herself aloud, “This is your fault! You caused this on yourself! Nobody but you!” she wept aloud, “If you had just told him everything he would still be on your side.” Maya had never known sadness like this; it was like a part of her died. She ruffled around her purse to find her cell phone and just the sight of her wallpaper, a picture of her and Joey, brought her to tears all over again. Though it had seemed farfetched she was still hoping there would be at least one missed call or a text message from him but there wasn’t. She dialled his number and listened to it ring, she figured he wouldn’t answer but she wanted to hear his voicemail anyway...
Joey sat in his suddenly lacklustre office watching his phone ring. His mood was mixed to perfection with anger, sadness and disbelief. Was it really over with Maya? He just hadn’t come to terms with his actions just yet and the sight of Maya, teary eyed standing in front of him as he broke the news to her kept replaying in his mind and he was perturbed by this. It wasn’t a secret that Joey completely and truly loved Maya and Maya loved him. “I mean we’ve been through a lot, the good, the bad, the in between, maybe it’s for the best.” Joey packed his things and called Jeff. “I know it’s not Friday night but let’s go out, there’s stuff I need to get off my mind and I’m a single man now, time for some well deserved fun.” Joey left his office and went to Jeff’s house...
“Whaddup with the single yo?” Jeff greeted him at the door.
“Maya and I broke up.”
“I don’t believe it!”
“You better and I’m not going back to the house, I’m staying here.”
“What happened?”
“She’s just a whole new person now and I can’t deal with the secrets and the lies and all that crap so I just said until you’re ready to tell me everything, we’re done, it was a test... she failed.”
“So that’s it?”
“That’s it...”
"You know you made a mistake right?”
“Maybe, but I’m willing to find that out the hard way.”
“I don’t know if I should entertain this or convince you to work it out. I have morals you know.”
“When did you get morals?”
“Since... Since... Just know I have some.”
“So I take the guest room?”
“Do you solemnly swear to pay for drinks?”
Joey raised his right hand, “I solemnly swear.”
“Okay, my morals say... Let’s do this!” Jeff threw a fist in the air and enthusiastically said, they laughed after a few seconds Jeff abruptly stopped and said, “Hold on... Where are your clothes?” Joey looked at him and laughed, “I’m not laughing with you you’re not wearing my draws.”
“Calm down jack-ass-a-nova,” Joey had packed some clothes that morning after the argument with Maya before he left home.
“I’m taking you to Dames de la Nuit so prepare yourself, have some scotch, get some sleep and be ready by 10.”
“It’s a plan.”
“I hope you’re ready for this Joey St. Christopher Vansant.” Joey smiled but didn’t think aloud, ‘I hope I’m ready too’ was the thought that was bellowing in his mind and he kept thinking of Maya too. He tripled his scotch dosage and laid down to rest his body was at ease but his mind was in a whirl.
“Nope, it’s not a dumb move, just a phase,” Joey tried to assure himself, he knew deep down inside that Maya did mean him some good but the fact that he didn’t know what good was what was bothering him. In the foyer Jeff was also doing some wrestling with his thoughts. His mind wandered back to the day Joey had told him he was in a serious relationship with Maya and how disappointed he was. He thought of how he had hoped they would break things off but it was a whole new ball game now because he knew how much they grew to mean to each other and how in love they were. He took up the phone and dialled Maya.
“Hey Maya, what’s going on?” His heart sunk to the sole of his feet when he heard how distraught and sad Maya was, it was then that he decided he would call off the night out with Joey. Joey had finally gotten to sleep and at 8:30 he woke up, he went into the dining room where Jeff was. “I just remembered I can’t go out tonight.”
“What the hell?”
“Let’s just stay home and chill.”
“No, no, no, no... I’m gonna go out and have fun with or without you.”
“Joey, you’re making a huge mistake and you know it. Don’t rush into anything, you’ll be sorry.”
“I definitely don’t need a lecture from you, Jeffery.”
“Oh really? And that should be the first thing that should make you say ‘Hey, if Jeff is telling me this is a mistake then maybe it really is one... But... fine, do you... When your ass is down and out, DON’T come knocking at my door.
“Not a problem.” Joey stormed out of the room and went upstairs, he called Marshall and he agreed that it would be a night of absolute fun. On the 13th floor...
“Dad, Joey just called me, he says he and Emeline broke up and he wants to go out.” Marshall excitedly said.
“Well isn’t that delightful news. You did agree didn’t you?”
“Of course I did but I need a plan.”
“Well then... Take him to The Red Room.” Later that night...
Marshall was dressed to handsome perfection and Joey looked quite dapper too they entered into The Red Room and the night begun. Marshall invited two ladies over to the table and ordered drinks for them all. The waitress however is the one that took a definite liking to Joey and this showed. Marshall realized this and took the two ladies from the table. He walked over to the waitress and after a few second of whispers she walked over to Joey. “I was told to come and keep your company.”
“I’d like that, but don’t you have to work?”
“It was the boss’ order.”
“Marshall is your boss?”
“That he is.” The two flirted and time swooped by. “My shift ends in 5minutes, but our date doesn’t have to.”
“This is a date?”
“It can be.”
Joey leaned forward and stared at, “This isn’t how I do dates Hon.”
She leaned forward just as Joey did and flirtatiously smiled, “Change... is inevitable sweetheart.”
“Touché,” Joey licked his lips and smiled at her. She got up,
“That’s just the first thing I’m right about Mr. Joey, you have so much more to go through but as for right now, I’ll go get my things and you can continue to enjoy my company when I get back. Deal?”
Joey chuckled, “Yes, ma’am.” His eyes did not once stray from her curvaceous body. Her magnificently rounded ass was accentuated by her skin tight, knee length black skirt, from the knee down was nothing but smooth butterscotch brown skin. Her tiny waistline was hugged by a broad black belt. It was evident that her breasts sat immaculately on her chest because her white, low cut round neck shirt showed them off. When she returned and sat her mid-back length auburn hair previously in a bun, flowed beautifully with ease and she smiled. Moments passed and she watched him stare at her with an admiring smile.
“What?”
“Nothing at all... I’m just trying to find a non-cliché way of telling you that you’re positively beautiful,” he saw her blush a little, “I mean it shouldn’t be something new to you, but I want to say it so you feel like it’s new.”
"I think you did a pretty good enough job and thank you,” she was still blushing, “so Joey, would you like to buy me a drink?”
He was a little embarrassed but he recovered soon enough to say, “I’d love to.”
“Dad, he’s with Lala, okay, I’ll have her call you,” Marshall whispered from across the room.
A text came in on her phone, “Could you excuse me a second, I have to make a phone call.”
“Sure,” Joey replied. For a quick second Joey’s mind flashed over to Maya and what she could be doing in Kitsen...
Maya sat in a corner in the dining hall at the Clinton Hotel, minutes later a tall man decked in a dark grey suit came to her table and sat, “Hello, Craig.”
“Emeline,” he was straight faced and dead serious and Maya mirrored these expressions, “Are you finally ready to wipe him out?”
Maya nodded in agreement, “Completely,” she clasped both hands in front her on the table, “And I mean entirely, I don’t want even a f***ing memory left behind.” The man chuckled darkly and silence hung over them for a few seconds.
“So it shall be then.”
Alala returned to the table and took up her bag, she held out her hand for Joey to take, “Let’s go, I already told Marshall you’re leaving,” Joey slowly got u and took her hand.
